Time for another one of those not-so-steady updates….
-Sean McCurdy. New article on him. My highlights…
“It’s not just because of playing time that I’m leaving,” McCurdy said. “Some other issues happened.”
McCurdy, a reserve guard, declined to elaborate on the contributing factors to his departure but said they had nothing to do with former Coach Stan Heath or current Coach John Pelphrey.
Baggage is not good…
An unfortunate turn in a late-season game at LSU shook McCurdy to the point that he skipped class the next day to avoid being seen and Heath shielded him from media interviews for several days. McCurdy was thrust into the game’s final seconds after not playing since the first half and missed two free throws. LSU won 78-77 when Darrel Mitchell hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Hopefully that is all there is to it. I just got the book, The Miracle of St. Anthony’s, and will try to post anything useful when I’m finished.
-Tribe baseball. Just didn’t have enough in the tank and dropped 1 to ODU, eliminating them from CAA Tournament contention. Greg Sexton is still rolling along, though, and is in the top 30 of the Wallace Watch list. I’m thinking he will be a 3-4 rounder.
-In the majors, the former Tribal members are doing pretty well. Chris Ray struggled early in Baltimore, but has regained his control and has used his offspeed pitches better which have brought about more success. Brenden Harris is currently Tamba Bay’s starting short stop, and is hitting over .300. Bill Bray is still on the DL in Cincinnati.
-Women’s Tennis. Megan Moulton-Levy and Katarina Zoricic are in the NCAA doubles finals, and play tomorrow at 2 pm. Live stats can be found here. Moulton Levy is also rolling along in singles, and updates will be provided.
-In the only upsetting news on the Tribe athletics front, Paul Juliano recently had to be bailed out of jail for making a homemade explosive. Hopefully everything works out for the Tribes junior center fielder. By the way, nice article title. Stay classy, Daily Press.
