Breaking News: Matt McFadden Leaves Program

Posted by TTHS on 17th November 2006

After announcing he was taking some time off from the program, Matt McFadden has decided college basketball, at least at W&M, is not for him. McFadden is leaving the team for what was described as “personal reasons”. He will stay enrolled at the college, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he transfered at the end of the year.

What does this mean?

Well, it either means Adam Trumbower will play 5-10 minutes per game, or that AP or Nathan Mann will move back to point. A freshman in David Schneider cannot carry the entire load. I think the best option is Trumbower. Mann and Adam Payton at 2 is a combo I like.

I’ll have basketball and football previews up soon.

Finishing Off Saturday Trifecta, W&M Women lose at Maine

Posted by TTHS on 12th November 2006

The Tribe dropped it’s first game of the year 66-46 in Orono.

W&M hung in there until late in the game, mainly due to Devin James. Devin scored a team-high 15 points and 11 boards, playing the entire game. Kyra Kaylor was 1-10 from the field, scored 9 points, and pulled down 11 boards.

It’s easy to see why the Tribe lost, and I’ll leave this recap on a final stat.

W&M assists-6

W&M turnovers-23

Basketball Impressive in Opener, losing by 10 to Kansas State

Posted by TTHS on 12th November 2006

The Tribe lost it’s first game of the season at Kansas State, but fought tough and hung with the big 12 team all game.

Midway into the first half the Tribe was up 18-7, but KSU went on a 20-2 run making the score 27-20. They were down 7 at the half and the Tribe stayed within striking distance all game. The game finished at 70-60, and the Tribe showed that even the bottom teams in the CAA can hang with top conference teams.

The player who impressed me most in practice has been doing it in the season, David Schneider. After putting up the best line in the Barton game, he did it again vs. KSU. He played 38 minutes, scored 18 points, got 7 assists, 4 steals, and 9 rebounds. He led the team in all of those stats, and has looked like the best player on the court so far this year.

Laimis Kisielius also had a good game, dropping 16 and in 35 minutes and hitting each of his 3 attempts from long distance.

They were the only 2 starters who did anything. Peter Stein played 20 minutes scoring 4 points and grabbing 6 boards. Nathan Mann only played 20 minutes and fouled out with only 5 points. Adam Payton only scored 5 after getting 20 in the scrimmage.

Stephen Hess was fairly effective, getting 3 points, 3 boards, and a block in 11 minutes, but 3 fouls is too many in that time.

No other players off the bench did much either. Alex Smith was okay, getting 2 points and 3 boards in little play time. Danny Sumner, Adam Trumbower, and Kyle Carrabine did next to nothing in their play time. Chris Darnell got 3 points and 3 boards in 9 minutes.

But my biggest issue is Corey Cofield. What is going on with him? 4 points and no rebounds in 14 minutes. Rebound was the emphasis coming into the game and he couldn’t even pull down one. The big men have done next to nothing down low, and Cofield and co. need to pick it up.

Matt McFadden is taking some time off from the team. Hopefully everything is alright with him and he can come back to the team soon.

All in all, we lost because Kansas State got 32 offensive boards. That was what Coach Shaver wanted to stop coming into the game, and we didn’t. Hopefully we can crash the boards a little bit better when Wagner comes to Kaplan on the 20th.

Go Tribe!

Football Falls to 3-7 with 28-14 Loss at yoUDee

Posted by TTHS on 12th November 2006

I’m giving quick recaps, spent the weekend at the game in Blacksburg.

The Tribe fought until the end, but Mike Potts’ 3 picks did them in blowing it in the 4th quarter.

Going into the final 15 it was 14-7, but a pass from Pitt transfer Joe Flacco to Duke transfer Ben Patrick made it 21-7. The Tribe didn’t stop fighting, though, and Potts threw a TD pass to fullback Matt Otey, keeping the Tribe in the game with about 7 minutes left.

But then Joe Flacco ran it in from 3 yards away with only 3 minutes left, putting the game in the bag.

The defensive standouts were Chris Ndubueze, David Caldwell, and Derek Cox. Caldwell and Cox both got INT’s, and Ndo got the Tribe’s only sack.

The standouts on the other side of the ball were Matt Otey, coming back from an injury and getting a TD, Joe Nicholas, 5 catches, 50 yards, and a TD, and RJ Archer, who caught 5 passes for 80.

The Tribe finishes it’s season at home next week vs. Richmond. Come support the Tribe on senior day.

Tribe Signs 2 Recruits

Posted by TTHS on 10th November 2006

The Tribe signed 2 recruits in the early signing period, Vali Lazarescu and Marcus Kitts.

Vali Lazarescu is a 6-4 guard from Champlain St. Lambert school in Canada. Vali chose the Tribe over American, Princeton, Boston, Toledo, and Evansville. The Tribe jumped into the recruiting process late, but I really think we got a diamond in the rough. Vali was MVP of the Hagen tournament, and average 20 points per game in the Prep Canada Challenge. He won the qball dunk contest, and the dunk video is here. Vali looks to be a replacement for Adam Payton.

I am so thankful Coach John Dangelas allowed us to get involved with Vali at such a late date in the recruiting process” Shaver said. “We knew the pressure was on during the official visit, and we had to make a great impression. When Vali arrived on campus, he turned heads with his diverse background, his confident personality and snazzy attire. It was the perfect official visit. Vali is a big guard with tremendous athleticism. He is the winner of multiple Canadian dunk contests. He can finish in transition above the rim, shoot from the perimeter and rebound from the guard position.

Marcus Kitts signed with the Tribe in the summer, and is an Apex, NC native. Kitts averaged 19 points per game and 12 rebounds. He has gained 20 pounds over the summer, and picked W&M over UNCW, Iowa, WVU, Davidson, and UT. Kitts was an all-american nominee.

“Marcus was the easiest evaluation I have made in my 30 years of coaching,” Shaver said. “The first time I saw Marcus, he scored more than 30 points and grabbed over 20 rebounds in a 4A basketball game in the Raleigh, N.C., area. I knew he was our guy, and we just had to find a way to sign him. Marcus is a very talented athlete who has yet to realize his potential. He has exceptional hands and a rare knack for rebounding the ball above the rim. The bigger the game and the better the competition, the better Marcus plays. He is fearless, and he welcomes challenges from opposing teams and players”

W&M @ Delaware Preview

Posted by TTHS on 9th November 2006

Overview

William and Mary is playing some of it’s best ball of the season, after sticking with JMU, a norrow loss to Villanova, and a huge upset win besting the Towson Tigers. The Blue Hens of Delaware, however, are not, coming off back-to-back losses against Towson and JMU.

When W&M has the ball

W&M OL vs. UD DL

The Tribe has a young o-line, led by senior all-american Cody Morris. They, too, have really come on and helped dominate the trenches against Towson. The Tribe ran all over Towson and gave up zero sacks, mainly due to the OL. This was the team’s biggest weakness coming into the year, but it is turning out to be a solid unit. The UDel defensive line has 2 seniors, a junior, and a sophomore. They only got 1 sack vs. JMU, and only have 12 on the year(8 are coming 2 games). End Jeremy Kametz has one of those, the other end Bubba Jesperen has 2, and the 2 tackles combine for 1.5. This will be another important match-up.

W&M running game vs. UD LB’s

W&M senior running back Elijah Brooks has also been very strong in his past couple games. In the last 4 weeks he has gone for 101, 99, 142, and 165. Also, back-up DeBrian Holmes has been more effective and putting former RB Delmus Coley at FB could help the running game also. The Tribe averages 134 yards per game on the ground. At linebacker UD has 2 sophomores and senior. The senior, Keiandre Hepburn, leads the team in tackles with 85 and also in tackles for loss with 6. The middle linebacker, Erik Johnson, is second on the team in tackles with 54, has 5 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, and an INT. He looks to be a player. The 3rd and final linebacker is sophomore Brian Brown. Brown has 21 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, and a sack on the year and has started 7 of the 9 games. UD gives up an average of over 200 yards per game on the ground, so don’t be shocked if Elijah Brooks and co. run all over the Blue Hens.

W&M passing game vs. UD DB’s

The Tribe passing game has greatly increased since Jake Phillips was replaced in the starting lineup Mike Potts. Last week Potts had the second best passing game in W&M history, going for 409 yards, 2 TD’s and an INT that was a tipped pass. Part of that is consistent junior WR Joe Nicholas. Nicholas leads the team in receiving yards and went for 104 and 2 TD’s last week. Behind him is freshman QB convert RJ Archer, who seems to do something spectacular every week. Last week the big-play threat caught 6 passes for 122 yards. DJ McAulay is another strong receiver, who made a big-time 45 yard TD catch last week diving out of bounds. Elliot Mack has come back after being nearly invisible during the middle of the season, and is becoming a threat on reverses. The 2 running backs, Brooks and Holmes, are also solid and the 2 TE’s, Trinkle and Atchison, have really come on in the past few weeks. UD is young at CB, with a freshman in Ken Hale and a sophomore Fred Andrew. Andrew has an interception on the year is in the top 5 tacklers on the team. Hale has only started one game this season. The safties are consist of seniors Kyle Campbell and Garrett Schultz. Schultz is third on the team in tackles and has 2 picks. Campbell is forth on the team in tackles and also has 2 interceptions. UD gives up over 200 yards on average through the air.

When UD has the ball

UD OL vs. W&M DL

Delaware’s line hasn’t been up to par this year. They have given up 22 sacks, 10 more than their DL has gotten, and only averages a little over 100 yards per rushing per game. Last week they only rushed for 20 yards and were sacked 4 times. The Tribe’s DL played one of it’s best games last week, headed up by redshirt freshman Adrian Tracy. The Tribe sacked Towson 5 times, 3 by Tracy, and were in the backfield pretty much all day. Tracy leads the team in sacks(6), tackles for loss(15), and is second in tackles(59). He and Josh Wright provide a good young-old combo on the edges. This match-up will be key to the outcome of the game saturday.

UD running game vs. W&M LB’s

UD’s running game hinges on which RB starts: freshman Jared Bradley, or junior all-everything Omar Cuff. Bradley started last week vs. JMU and was ineffective. Cuff has missed his last 2 games and is questionable for this weeks game. He hasn’t had a good game since the 4th week of the year. UD averages just over 100 yards per game on the ground. The Tribe looks to start 2 seniors, Travis McLaurin and Chris Ndubueze, and a sophomore, Michael Pigram, this weekend. McLaurin is #6 on the team in tackles, has an INT on the year, and is a Delaware native. Ndubueze has become the top tackler with 65, has 3 sacks in the last 4 games, and 5 TFL on the year. He is really becoming a defensive leader and is fun to watch. Pigram has gotten some huge hits on the year and will make a nasty combo for the years to come with Josh Rutter. He is third on the team in tackles with 58 and has 3.5 TFL. Whether Bradley or Cuff starts, and if they are on their game, decides this match-up.

UD passing game vs. W&M DB’s

This is UD’s best spot. Pittsburgh transfer Joe Flacco has thrown for over 290 yards in each of his last 3 games, a TD in each of his last 6, and 14 total TD’s on the year. He is a big guy, and has a strong arm. Flacco gets sacked a lot, but that is probably due to his offensive line. UD starts 3 young receivers, the first being Aaron Love. Love is a sophomore that has gained over 100 yards in each of his last 3 games, and is the teams leading receiver. Second is sophomore Kervin Michaud, who is third on the team in receiving. He has caught multiple passes in every game but one this year. UD’s third and final wide receiver is tall freshman Ryan Finnegan, who has only started 2 games but looks to have a bright future. TE Ben Patick is a huge target. The senior is 6-4, 270. Patrick has caught more than 5 passes in each of his last 7 games and is second on the team in receiving. The Hens average almost 240 ypg through the air. W&M’s defensive backfield consists on 2 sophomores and 2 seniors. The seniors are Alan Wheeling, who did not play last weekend due to an injury. Wheeling got a huge INT and 33 yard return vs. Liberty. The other senior is Richard Riley, who also has an interception, and 3 tackles for a loss. Derek Cox and Kevin Allen are the future of the secondary, and have both been solid contributors. Even though the Tribe secondary has talent, expect the Hens to chew them up and spit them out.

ST

Delaware kicker Zach Hobby has made 8 of 11 field goals on the year with a long of 45. The punter, Stuart Kenworthy, averages 37.2 yards per punt. Aaron Love averages 13.8 yard per return on punts, and Rashaad Woodard averages 27.3 yards per kickoff return. Derek Cox is W&M’s punt returner and has been solid at best on the year, yet to break one. David Caldwell has taken over the kick-return duties well, gaining over 50 ypg in each he has played. W&M’s Blair Pritchard kicks and punts, and he has made 7-10 field goals with a long of 34. His punting has been very good, and he averages 36.2 per punt and has pinned the ball inside the 20 7 times.

Final Prediction

Let me start by saying this will not be the knd of game where the team to have the ball last wins. W&M’s offense isn’t that good, and their defense isn’t that bad. The game will be high-scoring, and I think Cuff’s status will be huge. Either way, I am picking the Tribe to keep it’s momentum in a narrow win.

W&M @ Kansas State Preview

Posted by TTHS on 7th November 2006

Overview

W&M is coming off another tough season, and this year could be critical for head coach Tony Shaver. With a cream-puff OOC schedule, the Tribe needs double-digit wins for a successful season. Kansas State, on the other hand, is coming off a 15-win year, and is now entering the regime of former Cincinnati coach Bob Huggins. The Tribe handled a top DII team in Barton college, winning by 12, while KSU had trouble in their exhibition game, winning only after 3 over-times.

PG

William and Mary will be very young at point guard this season. The projected starter, sharp-shooter David Schneider, is a freshman from Arizona. In the scrimmage vs. Barton College, Schneider scored 14 points, got 8 boards, 7 assists, and 8 steals. He played a team-high 34 minutes. The other freshman point guard, Matt McFadden, was expected to start the scrimmage, but he laid a mjor egg. He hit a 3 in 13 minutes, got 2 fouls, and 5 turnovers. The Tribe also has a senior, always-hustling point guard in Adam Trumbower, but he isn’t fast enough/doesn’t shoot well enough and doesn’t see significant time. I’d like to see him play more.

For KSU, the projected starter is junior Clent Stewart out of Tulsa Oklahoma. He scored 4.6 ppg last year and started 20 games. He dished out 85 assists compared to 57 turnovers. In their exhibition, Stewart did not start, got 11 points(3-11 shooting), and got 3 assists with 2 turnovers. The 2 backups are fr. Chris Merriewether, out of Jacksonville, and senior Jermaine Maybank out of the Bronx. Maybank is a walk-on and has very little to no game experience. Maybank started the exhibition and scored 11 points, 9 from the foul line, and had 4 assists and 4 turnovers. Merriewether got 3 points in 18 minutes and had 2 assists.

SG

This position will be much stronger than point for the Tribe. Senior Adam Payton started at shooting guard for the Tribe vs. Barton College, and showed his offensive potential. Payton scored 20 points in 27 minutes and is also the best defender on the team. It is absolutely key to the Tribe’s season that he continues to play like that.

Blake Young, from Orlando, should get the starting duties for the Wildcats. He spent 2 years at a Florida CC, and got 6 points and 2 assists in the exhibition. Right behing him is Lance Harris, who started the scrimmage, but only played 13 minutes and score 2 points. He is a senior who has played 27+ games in all 3 of his years at KSU.

SF

The Tribe will probably play 3 guards, so in the 3 spot is junior Nathan Mann. Nathan is one of the teams top shooters, and hit 2 of 4 vs. BC-South. He also got 7 assists and 3 rebounds also. Danny Sumner may also play 3, but he is totally different from Mann. He is a tall, long, freshman PF from the DC area that is extremely athletic. His 2 points against BC was a big-time dunk, and he really showed his potential is a scrimmage a few weeks earlier. He is a ticking time-bomb, and could explode at any second.

One of KSU’s best players is SF David Hoskins, last years 2nd leading scorer. He average 13.1 ppg, but can’t shoot the 3 and turns the ball over too much. He really lit it up in the exhibition vs. Washburn. He dropped 29 in 44 minutes, got 10 boards and 4 assists. His back-up is Akeem Wright out of Philly. He was the 4th leading scorer last year, with 6.2 ppg,got over 5 rebounds per game, and started 21.

PF

The Tribe struggled down low against Barton College, but the team’s best player is senior PF Corey Cofield. Cofield is the leading returning scorer, and as a freshman was ROY. He got 7 points against Barton, and I don’t know what has held him back this year. Hopefully he will break through. The starter vs. BC was Laimis Kisielius, a player from Lithuania who (hopefully) showed how good he is. He got 17 points, 6 rebounds, and was 6-8 shooting. He can play just about every position, and causes a bunch of match-up problems. Alex Smith and Chris Darnell are both solid players, and should play better than their 3 total points vs. BC.

K-State’s leading scorer from a year ago, at 18 ppg, was Cartier Martin. Martin is a Houston, Texas native, and he also led the team in rebounding(over 6), and starts(28). He wasn’t that good in the exhibition. While he did score 19, it was in 50 minutes and he was only 4-19. Right behind him is senior Serge Afeli. Afeli, an Ivory Coast native, got 8 points in 9 exhibition minutes, and provides good depth down low.

C

The Tribe’s C’s and PF’s are pretty much the same thing, but the starting center is Peter Stein. Pete is a sophomore and picked up 7 points against BC, and is mobile for a center. Stephen Hess is the backup, a freshman from NC, and probably won’t play much this year.

Center looks to be KSU’s weakest position, with 2 freshman in Luis Colon and Jason Bennett. Colon, a Puerto Rico native, is the projected starter. He scored 2 points and collected 7 boards in their exhibition. Jason Bennett is 7-3, and was on his high schools varsity team from 7th grade on. He looks to have a lot of potential, but didn’t play in the exhibition.

Final Prediction

On Cloud 9

Posted by TTHS on 4th November 2006

Finally, for the first time on this blog, I can tell you the Tribe won an A-10 game. We knocked off #21 Towson, and I’ll give a quick recap of the last drive.

Towson had the ball at our 24 on 3rd and 4. They got called for false start and then gained that back on a pass, making it 4th and 4. They jumped again, making it 4th and 9. Schaefer tried to pass it into the endzone, but it was incomplete. We got the ball around the Towson 30. A bunch of short passes picked up 5-10 yards and eventually we got into Towson territory. Then Mike Potts passed it to Elliot Mack, eventually getting to the Towson 23. Then Potts passed for a gain of 2 out of bounds to Elijah Brooks. Ball on the 21, and Potts gained 4 on a pass to Joe Nicholas out of bounds at the Towson 17. The 3rd down pass was thrown away, and it was Blair Pritchard’s time to shine. After 3 Towson timeouts, Pritchard split the uprights and the Tribe won, 29-28.

What an exciting game, and that excitement is shown in W&M’s 3 TD’s. First was on a fake reverse, followed by Potts dropping back and completing a 76 yard touchdown pass to Joe Nicholas. The second, on the Towson 6, where Potts tossed back to Elijah Brooks who hit a wide-open Joe Nicholas in the endzone. They 3rd and final touchdown was a 45 yard pass to a diving DJ McAulay, barely staying in bounds. Great playcalling today by Coach Laycock.

Like most games involving Towson, their was a bunch of passing. Schaefer of Towson passed for 367 yards and 4 TD’s, completing 33 of 51. Only interception was when he got hit hard. He is going to be special.

But on to the William and Mary passing game. Mike Potts showed why he is our best QB today. He completed 28 of 44, passing for 2 touchdowns and throwing for an amazing 409 yards. Congrats to Mr. Potts. Both RJ Archer and Joe Nicholas gained over 100 yards receiving, Archer for 122(career-high) on 6 passes and Nicholas for 104 on 6 and 2 of them touchdowns. DJ McAulay also gained 51 on 2 catches, one of them a touchdown. The biggest this was how everybody pitched in. 8 players got multiple receptions.

Elijah had a spectacular day also. He ran the ball 22 times gaining 165 yards on the ground and 33 through the air with 5 catches. According to Towson’s website that was his career-high. He also passed for 6 yards and a touchdown. DeBrian Holmes also rushed for 39 and got 29 through the air.

The defense wasn’t spectacular today, but they made the big plays late and got some big-time turnovers. Chris Ndubueze had 13 tackles, 2 for a loss and a sack. The biggest standout, though, is freshman star Adrian Tracy. He got 4 tackles for a loss, 9 total tackles, 3 sacks, and forced a fumble. Isn’t it great to watch a player become a star?

Enjoy the A-10 win, Tribe fans. It’s been a while.

CAA Women’s Soccer Tournament

Posted by TTHS on 3rd November 2006

11/2

10:18-Check that. The Tribe loses 6-5 in shootouts. Donna Mataya made her kick, but Brittany Bode missed. So disappointing that whenever it looks like we can make a run(see:Moulton-Levy last year) we always fall short. Looks like you can say bye-bye to a playoff home game.

10:14-Makes by Danielle Collins, Emily Kittleson, Abby Lauer, and Lauren Bowers. Miss by Meredith Brown.

For ODU-Makes-Beth Messier, Jodi Knorowski, Janna Pearson, and Katie Watson. Miss by Lisa McKenzie.

Wow, and we go to another shootout I guess?

10:12-SHOOTOUTS!

4-4 right now. Details later.

10:00-The second OT is finished, still 1-1. I will stay straight up that I have no idea what happens next, but I will post it as soon as I find out.

9:56-A bunch of shots this OT. W&M has 4 or 5, 1 for ODU. Wally commented about the yellow’s. ODU’s is Janna Pearson if I remember correctly, and Mary MacKenzie Grier has one for W&M. One minute left in OT 2, Katie Hogwood just had a shot blocked.

9:48-And on to overtime #2. ODU’s Shavon Knight got a shot off with less than a half a minute to go, but the Tribe got the save and the game will continue. Any readers know what happens if it goes past 2 OT’s? PK’s?

9:44-A couple minutes into OT. Both W&M and ODU have had 1 shot. Total shots for ODU-19, 7 shots on goal. W&M-11 shots, 3 shots on goal. The current time is 103:33.

9:33-And we are in over-time. Hopefully coach can rally the troops and we can get a game-winning goal!

9:31-In the 89th minute. ODU has gotten 2 shots in, both have missed. They have really dominated the second half, and I’m just hoping we can crawl into OT.

9:18-Getting later, 81st minute last I checked and it’s still 1-1. Claire Zimmeck just missed a shot on goal. Looking more and more like this is going to OT. Hopefully ODU doesn’t continue to dominate.

8:45-About 10 minutes into the second half, ODU came up with the equalizer. Katie Watson with the goal, Heather Vaughan with the assist. Again, ODU had several chances to put one in the net and finally did. One of their players just got a yellow, that may be important down the strech. We shall see.

8:25-And it’s at the half, still 1-0 in favor of William and Mary. Claire came close to a couple goals, one “off the crossbar”. Hopefully we can get another goal or 2 in the second half to put ODU away!

7:40-GOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Donna Mataya puts in the back of the net, assist coming from CAA player of the year Claire Zimmeck. 6 minutes into the game, 1-0 Tribe.

7:21-I thought I’d start up a post tracking the CAA women’s soccer tourney, so I’ll set the scene for you guys. W&M had the first round off along with UNCW, but hopefully the upset bug doesn’t bite the Tribe like it did to the dub. They just lost to JMU, who will be W&M’s opponent if the undefeated in CAA play, #7 Tribe beats ODU tonight in VA Beach. Updates coming.

Tribe wins close one vs. Barton College, 85-73

Posted by TTHS on 2nd November 2006

The Tribe won a hard-fought(oxy-moron?) exhibition game vs. Barton College tonight, one of D2’s top teams last year. It was really dominated by the Tribe guards, the highlight being Adam Payton’s 20 points.

About 4 or 5 times the Tribe would get a double digit lead, only to let BC back into the game. At one point BC was down by only 3 with less than 5 minutes left.

But Adam Payton and Laimis Kisielius dropped a couple 3’s to make the lead 12 and give the Tribe an exhibition win.

As I said, the guards really dominated this game. Adam Payton got 20 points, 3 3’s, and led the team in scoring. Laimis Kisielius was next in line with 17 and 6 trey’s. He also had 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. The next highest scorer, who I have thought for a while would be our best freshman, was David Schneider, who dropped 14 with 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 8 steals in a team-high 34 minutes. Nathan Mann was also in double digits with 12 points and hit 2 3’s.

The big men weren’t too hot tonight, scoring a total of 19 points(Darnell, Cofield, Stein, Sumner, Hess, Smith). The Tribe box score says Hess did not play, but he did and got some good PT. Alex Smith did not play. Danny Sumner had 2 points and a block, but they were both athletic plays. The points were on a big-time dunk and the block was great also. The 4 turnovers didn’t help out. Corey Cofield did not start, and got 7 points and 4 boards. Chris Darnell got 3 points but struggled from the foul line. Peter Stein started as the only true big man and got 7 points but only 2 rebounds.

Onto the Freshman, Sumner played pretty much how I expected. He made some huge plays, but hasn’t been consistent enough and didn’t really contribute outside of those few plays. Hess didn’t get much PT so it is tough to judge him. We found out point guard in David Schneider who lit it up, showing the ability to score and dish off assists. I want to be nice, because Matt McFadden is a great kid, but hopefully tonight he didn’t have his best game. 5 turnovers, no assists, 3 points and a rebound. It seemed to me Matt had butterflies, and I’m sure he will get better in the next few games.

We made some pretty bonehead plays that let them back in the game, the most vivid being Laimis throwing an in-bounds intended for Nathan Mann out of bounds, and we need much better play out of the big men, specificall Corey Cofield. I’m sure that will be the main focus going into Kansas State.

Here is the starting lineup:

David Schneider

Adam Payton

Nathan Mann

Laimis Kisielius

Peter Stein

I’m willing to bet Cofield not starting was Coach Shaver sending a message.

That’s all I got. Sloppy game for the Tribe, but I saw many positives.

Stat of the game:57.9% field goal shooting for the Tribe

Players of the game:David Schneider, Adam Payton.
