Tribe Signs 2 Recruits

Posted by TTHS on November 10th, 2006

The Tribe signed 2 recruits in the early signing period, Vali Lazarescu and Marcus Kitts.

Vali Lazarescu is a 6-4 guard from Champlain St. Lambert school in Canada. Vali chose the Tribe over American, Princeton, Boston, Toledo, and Evansville. The Tribe jumped into the recruiting process late, but I really think we got a diamond in the rough. Vali was MVP of the Hagen tournament, and average 20 points per game in the Prep Canada Challenge. He won the qball dunk contest, and the dunk video is here. Vali looks to be a replacement for Adam Payton.

I am so thankful Coach John Dangelas allowed us to get involved with Vali at such a late date in the recruiting process” Shaver said. “We knew the pressure was on during the official visit, and we had to make a great impression. When Vali arrived on campus, he turned heads with his diverse background, his confident personality and snazzy attire. It was the perfect official visit. Vali is a big guard with tremendous athleticism. He is the winner of multiple Canadian dunk contests. He can finish in transition above the rim, shoot from the perimeter and rebound from the guard position.

Marcus Kitts signed with the Tribe in the summer, and is an Apex, NC native. Kitts averaged 19 points per game and 12 rebounds. He has gained 20 pounds over the summer, and picked W&M over UNCW, Iowa, WVU, Davidson, and UT. Kitts was an all-american nominee.

“Marcus was the easiest evaluation I have made in my 30 years of coaching,” Shaver said. “The first time I saw Marcus, he scored more than 30 points and grabbed over 20 rebounds in a 4A basketball game in the Raleigh, N.C., area. I knew he was our guy, and we just had to find a way to sign him. Marcus is a very talented athlete who has yet to realize his potential. He has exceptional hands and a rare knack for rebounding the ball above the rim. The bigger the game and the better the competition, the better Marcus plays. He is fearless, and he welcomes challenges from opposing teams and players”
