Tribe Adds Walk-On to Roster
Posted by TTHS on October 4th, 2006
If you checked out the roster today, you may have noticed a new name.
#12, Marcus Barnett, guard, Junior, 6′2″ 195, Phoebus High in Hampton.
Who is he?
It was really tough to find info on him, but bear with me. Last year he practiced with and scrimmaged with the team, but was not a manager. I’m thinking Coach Shaver had planned this move for a while, as he was one of the featured instructors at the kids camp. At Phoebus he played under Coach David Blizzard, and according to this website averaged 1.5 PPG in 14 games in either his Junior or Senior season. The fact that he is on this site would also show he wanted to jump on with a team out of HS, but decided to try and walk-on at W&M.
What does this mean?
I really doubt he sees much time this year, but it adds depth to a weak guard position and the roster spot wasn’t being used anyway. I could also see it being a chemistry move. From the players I have talked to he seems well-liked. That’s really all I can see in this minor move.
10 days ’til the start of practice.
